Chicago Skyline Lakefront Surprise Engagement

There is something so special about a Chicago proposal with the skyline in the background, Lake Michigan beside you, and the person you love standing right in front of you. Add a little fog, some blue sky, and a few planes flying overhead, and you have an afternoon that is hard to forget.

Matt and Lauren’s surprise engagement by the Adler Planetarium area was one of those sessions filled with genuine excitement, big smiles, and the sweetest little moments. And their adorable pup got to be part of it, too!

A Surprise Proposal by the Chicago Skyline

Matt planned a surprise proposal for Lauren along the lakefront, near the Planetarium. With the Chicago skyline behind them and the lake stretching out beside us, it was such a beautiful setting for this special moment.

And then came the big surprise.

Lauren’s reaction was everything. The shock, the happiness, the emotions, and that beautiful ring – you could see how much this moment meant to both of them. There is something about photographing a surprise proposal that never gets old. Every couple has their own story, but the moment they realize they are officially engaged is always special to witness.

A Little Fog, Blue Sky, and Planes Overhead

The afternoon started with a little fog over the skyline, giving the city a soft, hazy look. As the clouds cleared, we got a beautiful mix of blue sky and those dreamy Chicago lakefront views.

It was also the Friday rehearsal for the Chicago Air and Water Show, so we heard planes flying around during the session. It was a fun little reminder that we were right in the middle of Chicago, with the lake, the city, and the show happening around us.

Sometimes the unexpected details are what make a session even more memorable.

Their Sweet Pup Joined the Celebration

Of course, we could not leave their adorable pup out of the engagement photos! He joined us for a bit, and it was the sweetest way to include him in their celebration.

I love when couples bring their dogs to their engagement or proposal sessions. They are such an important part of the family, and having them there makes the photos feel even more personal.

After the proposal, we spent time photographing Matt and Lauren together as they enjoyed the afternoon and celebrated their engagement. They were such a happy couple, and it was so easy to capture their excitement.

From the skyline views to the little laughs, the beautiful ring, and the moments with their pup, their session was full of memories they will always be able to look back on.
